County residents invited to bring a potluck dish to pass
MONROE - Join your friends and neighbors for a free, family-friendly community potluck to celebrate and stimulate discussion about local foods in Green County.

Thanks in part to a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council, this three-part potluck supper series celebrates our agricultural roots and cultivates fresh perspectives for a more sustainable future. Blending education, conversation and connections, these events brings together area farmers, chefs, educators and anyone who appreciates our area's rich food and agriculture traditions. Presenters include national local foods leaders, Dr. Steve Stevenson, Kathy Ruhf and Lisa Kivirist.

"Stirring the Pot: Dialogue, Discussion and Dinner in the Dairyland" will be held on the front lawn of the Monroe Arts Center (1315 11th Street) on Wednesdays following the Monroe Farmer's Market on June 17, July 15 and August 19. (Event will be inside MAC in case of rain.)

Local food cooking demonstrations by local guest chefs will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the potluck and facilitated discussion. Each event will host live music and other entertaining surprises. Activities for kids will be coordinated by the youth theater project, Shakespeare on the Edge.

Please support Green County's resources by helping reduce waste at this event. In addition to your favorite potluck dish, bring your own dishware and picnic blanket or lawn chairs. Accommodations for those who need table seating can be made by calling UW Extension at (608) 328-9441.

For more information, contact Cara Carper, Green County UW Extension at (608) 328-9441 or cara.carper@ces.uwex.edu or check the Web site: www.gckitchen.org.

Sponsors of these county-wide events include: Green County UW-Extension, Monroe Arts Center, Monroe Farmers' Market, Monroe Main Street, Blackhawk Technical College, Renewing the Countryside, Wisconsin Humanities Council, Green County Spotlight LLC, Green County Development Corporation, Future Forward! Green County, Monroe Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and local Fare.

These events are funded in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council, with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Wisconsin Humanities Council supports public programs that engage the people of Wisconsin in the exploration of human cultures, ideas and values.
